On the Congress Plaza in Buenos Aires, a Christmas celebration brought together more than 5,000 participants, including families on the street and people from different social backgrounds. Organised by the Patria Grande movement and other civic groups, the event offered a three‑course holiday menu, personal‑care services, mobile showers, haircuts, and a dedicated children’s play area. A costumed Santa Claus visited, handing out gifts to every child. Celebrities such as model Andrea Rincón, journalist Alejandro Bercovich and communicator Eial Modavskyno attended and photographed themselves at the plaza.
The programme featured performances by Alan Sutton, Barbi Recanati, Mariu Serrano and Mundo Arlequín. Organisers said music and art became a bridge of integration, and attendance rose from 4,000 to 5,000 compared with the previous year.
Over a thousand volunteers from the Frente Patria Grande, the Movimiento de Trabajadores Excluidos and independent activists helped set up the venue, moving hundreds of folding tables and other equipment. Volunteers worked with a “pasamanos” to bring the tables to the plaza.
Congressman Itai Hagman highlighted the volunteer participation, saying no family should miss the night without a meal or a chance to celebrate. He urged greater solidarity in an era of individualism and selfishness.
The dinner was prepared by 50 community cooks who normally run soup kitchens in popular neighbourhoods. This event marked the ninth edition of “Argentina Humana”, the country’s biggest popular party. The event was also replicated in other municipalities in the Buenos Aires province, including a large dinner in La Plata.
